On April 17, 2015 the NIU Digital Convergence Lab hosted a team of students for the hackathon Ludum Dare 32 at the Founders Memorial Library. During Ludum Dare, developers from around the world spent a weekend creating games based on a theme suggested by the community. It’s both the longest running, and the largest Online Game Jam in the world. This year's theme was "An unconventional weapon." Seven NIU students spent the weekend developing their games. many development sites live stream the event (see: https://beam.pro/).

Games are an important form of learning. At the Digital Convergence Lab we play games, design games, and build games for fun and learning. Each summer we offer video games camps for boys and girls from ages 10 and up. In June watch for our video Games camp "Just of Girls". In July we have three weeks of Co-Ed Camps. In early August we have a residential career's camp for high school students. Finally, in August we offer an Advanced Video Games Camp for those students who want to take their game development to the next level.
