Video Game Design with GameMaker


Description

Interested in making your own video games but don't know where to start? In this workshop we will cover the game development engine GameMaker, making 8-bit inspired games, and developing game narratives.

Instruction will include a combination of live online interactions with NIU faculty and staff, along with recorded videos and downloadable step-by-step instruction.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn GameMaker design software.
  • Design a video game.
  • Explore popular video games.
  • Learn the essentials of game design.
  • Create game characters.
  • Invent game goals and rules.
  • Learn GameMaker’s drag and drop code..

Program Fees: $49

Time: 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm

Location: This is an online workshop delivered by Northern Illinois University, Digital Convergence Lab. To access this camp you will need a stable internet connection and a computer that meets the computer hardware and software requirements. Students need to download the free version of GameMaker prior to the workshop. Download here!

  • Computer Mouse (For PC, MAC, and Chromebook)
  • Headphone with microphone capability
  • Webcam
